Woodcarving Illustrated<\/em> <\/strong>is looking for new contributors. We publish a little bit of everything: architectural carvings, relief carvings, in-the-round carvings, caricature carvings, realistic carvings, and more. We just ask that you only submit your original designs (not modified versions of anyone else’s\u00a0patterns). Our acquisitions team meets monthly to consider new submissions, so there’s never a wrong time to send a query. That said, please note that we work about 6 months in advance (i.e., we need holiday designs in the early spring). If the committee approves your design, we’ll send you a contract and article information, and work with you to set a deadline.<\/p>\n

There are several ways you or your work can appear in Woodcarving Illustrated<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Club News:<\/strong>\u00a0Does your club have news to share? \u00a0Please send a paragraph describing the event or news and a high resolution, clearly focused photograph (if applicable)\u00a0to editors@woodcarvingillustrated.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Artists to Watch<\/b>: Please send a high resolution, clearly focused photo of one of your carvings and tell us a little bit about it–the name, size, material, and inspiration if original or designer if carved from a pattern, class, or roughout. Please include your name and address, and a bit about yourself, as well. View tips on how to take a great photograph of your project here<\/a>. E-mail submissions to editors@woodcarvingillustrated.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tips & Techniques<\/strong>: Found a tip or technique that makes sharpening easier? Designed and created a new tool holder or work positioner? Discovered a way to get more out of your tools or material? E-mail the tip and high resolution, clearly focused photo us at editors@foxchapelpublishing.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

How-to articles<\/strong>: We are always looking for new, original designs to publish. If you have created a design you’d like to share with fellow carvers, please send a photo and description, as well as some information about yourself (how long have you been carving, how did you learn, what techniques do you use, what shows do you do, and have you won any awards) to editors@woodcarvingillustrated.com<\/a>. We publish both step-by-step articles and just patterns. For a step-by-step article, we will expect you to carve the piece again, documenting each step in writing and photos, and send the carving to us for additional photography.<\/p>\n

Feature stories<\/strong>: We’re looking for artists to feature who have outstanding body of work created in a unique and distinctive style. We also consider artists who have developed an interesting technique that they are willing to share. If you feel that you meet either of those criteria, please send a selection of photos of your work and information about yourself (see above) to editors@woodcarvingillustrated.com<\/a>. Note that we will expect you to provide professional-quality photos of your work and yourself for the feature.<\/p>\n

Tool reviews<\/strong>: If you have a press release about a tool, email it to our editor, Dorissa Bolinski, at dorissa.bolinski@foxchapelpublishing.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n
